Today we will look at Godefroy Double Lash Treatment, the latest in our series on natural eyelash growth products. Godefroy is a prostaglandin free lash conditioner that claims to give you healthier eyelashes with a combination of natural plant extracts, plant oils, and vitamins. This product is also marketed as a brow regrowth conditioner. While these natural ingredients are generally safe to use and gentle on your eyes but how effective are they for growing longer eyelashes and thicker eyebrows? Let’s find out!
Do Natural Eyelash Growth Products Really Work?
The ingredients in Double Lash & Brow are…
Ricinus Communis, Lanolin, Trticum Vulgare, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, limonene, Linalool, Parfum
Ricinus Communis – Also known as castor oil, this is a common ingredient in many natural eyelash growth formulas. Although there is no scientific study that proves castor oil encourages hair growth, it has been used in traditional Indian hair care as a conditioner and moisturizer. Castor oil in any eyelash conditioner will coat your eyelashes and help keep them supple and less prone to breakage. So although it may not do anything for new lash growth it will help you keep what you already have! Plus as the oil builds up on your lashes they will look darker and thicker so your eyelashes will stand out more and be more noticeable.- Lanolin – This is a natural oil that is derived from the wool of sheep. While lanolin is the basis of many lotions, creams, and moisturizers, this is the first time that I have seen this ingredient in an eyelash growth product. I would think that the Lanolin serves the same purpose as castor oil to moisturize and condition your eyelashes.
- Trticum Vulgare – Mostly known as wheat, I’m not sure what this ingredient is supposed to do for your eyelashes… If anything I would expect wheat germ oil in a haircare formula. Again this would most likely be a moisturizer or a source of protein which would coat your eyelashes. However the presence of wheat says that celiacs and other people with gluten intolerance and/or allergies to wheat should avoid using Godefroy Double Lash Treatment.
- Cetearyl Alcohol – Again, this is another waxy product that is common in lotions. Most likely a coating or moisturizing ingredient in this formula.
- Cetyl Palmitate – A waxy ester that is commonly found in lotions and cream type cosmetics. Unfortunately this ingredient does not make hair grow longer either!
- Tocopheryl Acetate – This is a form of vitamin E that has the ability to cross the skin barrier and enter the cells underlying. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant once it is absorbed into your skin. However besides it’s antioxidant abilities, vitamin E is often included in hair care products as a moisturizer, not as a growth stimulator.
- Limonene – Found in the rinds of citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons, limonene is the compound responsible for the characteristic citrus scent. Besides its use as a fragrance in perfumes and flavor in foods, limonene is also used as an ingredient in paint strippers! While limonene is an all natural ingredient some people are sensitive to it and will experience irritation, redness, and itching.
- Linalool – Like limonene, linalool is a naturally derived fragrance ingredient that is found in many flowers and spices. Linalool as a fragrance has a calming effect but does not cause hair growh.
Unfortunately I will have to conclude that Godefroy Lash Treatment is not an effective eyelash growth conditioner despite the promising appeal of an all natural product. So far, the only all natural eyelash serum that I can recommend as possibly being effective for growing longer eyelashes has been Talika Lipocils lash conditioner.
But maybe I’m wrong and just a bit pessimistic… click here to see what other people have to say about this lash serum.
